PowerPoint tips 8: Drawing guides

We find Powerpoint's 'Drawing Guides' very useful for getting edges aligned, pictures the right size, and so on:
Here's a handy cut-out-and-keep cribsheet on how to use them.

03: To display the guides, View/Grid And Guides/Display Guides.
One vertical and one horizontal dotted line will appear across the centre on the slide.
Click on a line (off the edge of the slide, to avoid selecting an object) and drag it.
Ctrl + drag to make an extra line.
It'll 'snap' to a location when you let go of the click, unless you hold down Alt as you drag to position it accurately.
You can make as many lines as you want, they don't appear on print or slideshow.
Drag a line right off the slide to delete lines you don't want.

07: To display the guides, right-click off the edge of the slide, select 'Grid And Guides' and then check 'Display Grid On Screen'.
After that it's just the same as in 03.

10: Same as 2007, except that there's another tick box called 'Display smart guides when shapes are aligned'.
This is very useful when arranging objects on your slide....as Keynote users discovered several years ago...
